In September 2025, Blue Starr Oyster Co. took part in a three-day knowledge exchange organized by James Crimp and Arron Jones from Alaska Sea Grant. The Alaska Sea Grant Oyster Farming Operations Workshop was put together to connect those new to oyster farming in Alaska with those with significant experience in the sector. 

The workshop consisted of a combination of classroom sessions and visits to farms on Prince of Wales Island, including our farm and our neighbors, Tomasso Shellfish. At the Blue Starr Farm, the visitors toured the FLUPSY (FLoating UPweller SYstem) as well as our FlipFarm setup, which has been a significant addition to farm operations. Showcasing the different options for farming and the systems in place for nursery operations helps those newer to oyster farming understand the techniques available in the sector and the steps that go into getting oysters from hatchery to the farm.
