UAS Aquaculture Semester Class Visit – 2025

This past September, we were glad to host the University of Alaska Southeast (UAS) Alaskan Aquaculture Semester class of 2025 at the farm. Each fall semester, UAS offers a one-semester intensive applied learning course that teaches the foundations of mariculture and aquaculture in Alaska. Students learn about aquaculture techniques involved in rearing shellfish, seaweed, finfish, and other marine species. An important part of the course involves visits to working mariculture operations, meeting farmers and operators, and providing students with hands-on learning experiences.

Blue Starr Oyster Co. has been supporting the UAS Aquaculture Semester for several years by hosting internships for the aquaculture students and providing opportunities for visits such as this from the class. On this visit, students got to see the Blue Starr farm and FLUPSY in action, help us sort oysters, and have all their oyster farming questions answered. We’re always glad to host the next generation of mariculture professionals!
